I have a rod designed by Charles Ritz for Garcia Conolon #2066 8'10" for 10-11 wgt line. Have any idea when made? and When did Conolon go out of
buisness. I alway enjoyed casting Pezon Michael bamboo, Ritz combo glaass/bamboo and this rod.

In 1967, Ritz showed Cornelius Ryan his Vario-Power (glass butt, cane tip) rods. Ryan contacted Thomas Lenk of the Garcia Corporation. In 1968, at a meeting in
Norway, Lenk invited Ritz to visit the Conolon factory in Santa Ana, California. Ritz arrived at Conolon in December 1968 with Pierre Creusevaut. In two days
they made six prototype rods.
"Today - March 1st, 1971 - after building and testing many prototypes we have the perfect range of LFLL/HSHL all-glass fly rods, from 6 ft. 6 in. to 8 ft. 10 in. with an extension butt." Information and quote from the revised third edition (1972) of A Fly Fisher's Life by Charles Ritz.
Quashnet's Paul H. Young Rod Database has photos and descriptions of 325 PHY Co. rods, plus catalogs, accessories,
etc. Thank you to all who continue to send me PHY rod photos and info.

Thank you for the info. In 1964 while on leave I stopped by Riitz - Charlton Hotel in Boston. I convinced Charles that we could go accross the street and casts
his Varion rods. They were simply fantastic.

Here's a scan from my 1974 Garcia Annual of the Ritz rods. According to Johnson's Fiberglass rod book, they were introduced in the late 60's:
I have been told that the salt water rods are capable of generating "whistling" line speeds. You can find a lot more info about Ritz glass rods by doing a search on the Fiberglass Rod Forum. Regards, Kevin |

Kevin thanks for the photos and information of the pages im your 1974 Garcia Annual. I have been lawn casting with the rod and I'm just amazed at the
action of this rod. It's just a joy to lift line, backcast and shoot a country mile. I think I will just use this rod on a trip to Cuttyhunk for big
striped bass. I wish I had a Ritz rod in eight weight for the Margaree River - going in October. Thanks again.
