I have built this rod for many customers, including Ed Engle, and John Gerich. I just delivered one and have one on the bench that needs a reel seat glued on
and one more dip of varnish on the tips, then it will be delivered. I can't say enough about this rod, one of the best tapers I have made even though I am
now modifying it slightly by swelling the butt just before the handle. Ed Engle wrote about the 209e I built for him in his book 'Splitting Cane'
So to sum it up, build it you will like it. I have always said that the 3" difference between this rod and an 8' rod is where the majic is! Joe E. Arguello |

It is a great taper, as is the standard 209. I have long been a Garrison fan, and love the tapers. My advice is to keep the rod shaft as light as possible. It
looks to me like the design philosophy was to use the minimum weight of cane to get the job done. You can bog them down with heavy hardware. I like to use
truncated ferrules, and like Garrison, keep the thread work and finish thickness to a minimum. If you like a faster rod, take Joe's advice on the butt
swell. Garrison allowed some leeway in that area, also.
