Need a Taper |

Does anyone have the taper information for a Leonard 36? The one I am looking for is for the 1/2 weight 6' rod. The original was done on a taper form with
3" centers not 5" centers. The original 3" is the one I am looking for.
Thanks in advance. Chris |

The only one I am aware of is the 36L, reportedly a 1wt, taper recorded on 6" centers. It was posted a while back. Tim

I appreciate you answering. I am not sure if it has a letter designation or not one source says yes and one says no. All I know is the taper I am looking
for is SMALL, I also know that all Leonard Rods were built on 3" centers. I am having a custom planing set made just for this rod. The surface grinding is
accurate to .0001 but I need to get the tapers so I can get the 60 angle cut just right, because I have several 1000 dollars in the grinding alone. I want
this rod to be an exact replica. I have an original now and it is AMAZING. It is so slow you can almost put a wind knot in the rod, and it will cast a 1 wt
line 60 feet easy.

I'd take a set of calipers and measure your original..You will have to make some assumptions in regard to the varnish thickness, but you should end up with
something that is very close. Plus you can always build another. Cheers.

I wonder if you could take three measurements of your original Baby Catskill. Could you measure the diameter of the slide of the male ferrule, the three flat to flat measurements over varnish at the tip immediately bellow the tiptop and also the total weight of the rod? There is significant variation in these in different "one ounce" Leonard Baby Catskills. This will decide what you have in your original.

Were these taken over varnish and if so how thick was it? Thanks--Larry

FlyDoctor:
It is my understanding that these measurements were taken by Carlos Santos and have already been corrected for varnish.
