Dressed or Naked Revisited |

It has been many years since I ran this poll and I think it would be interesting to see if the percentages have changed in the last 5 plus years so here we
go;
What is you preference for how your rods are finished out? (Result) |

Tough one. Seeing as I have one of each, I need the "all of the above". I lean towards the Naked (drives my wife up the wall when we have company),
but a well done full-Dressed is also nice to have. As long as the Dressing is integrated; comes across as an integral design element of the rod it's good,
but sometimes people will stick on flashy bits that just make the rod like it's a pig with lipstick (I'm note denigrating pigs or lipstick here).
So, I haven't voted yet, I need to think more about it.
This signature left intentionally blank.

I didn't vote because I'm a "tweener." I am definitely a sucker for intermediates but I'll pass on any engraving, fancy inlays, etc.

I won't vote either since I like intermediates but engraving doesn't really send me.

I voted "Naked" because if I were forced to take one over the other, I guess the plain wraps would be it, but I really like
intermediates. My "daily driver" has over 140 intermediates and triple tipping at the guides, as well as fairly ornate signature wraps, but I had to
go with naked because I DO NOT LIKE engraved hardware... although I do engraving on my Presentation models.

It is easy for me. A little tipping and small signature wrap no need for the frills.

I'm with Mer on this one(although I did vote "naked"). Either approach can be elegant. How can one not like Gnome's or Paducah Michael's
and other's dress work? OTOH a simple black dress can make a lady stunning but all the jewelry in the world won't get me hot for a pig(sorry about the
sexist analogy, Pink).

Hell, I ended up voting for naked since I don't like engraving but love intermediates.

Like Bob N. I don't care for engraving but do like intermediates. So I vote naked.

Sort of like a burger, isn't it? I find my preference for dressings change from day to day. (Most days I want only mustard, onion and pickles....but
sometimes tomato, lettuce and whatever else you've got sounds great.)
The best part about rods is they are all beautiful in their own way. I REALLY like intermediates. But I think the 1930's Granger Premier was one of the classiest looking rods of all time and it doesn't have intermediates, tipping, signature wraps or mid butt wraps or even a hookkeeper. Just gold at the guides and ferrules against that gorgeous Granger bamboo. |

I fancy myself as a minimalist (except for the number of rods and reels I own
), so my vote goes for the "Naked" designs. Tipping a wrap often enhances a plain wrap, but intermediates seem to detract from the beauty of
the cane. I do appreciate the effort and planning that go into full-dress rods, but I just can't see one as my main rod. This is my idea of a beautiful,
naked rod:

I enjoy seeing the incredible engraving and fancy intermediate wrappings shown on this site - but have never felt inclined to collect or own these types of
rods myself. I would put the intermediate wraps in the same category with engraved metalwork - with today's glues, not funstional, so, generally, better
off without.

I definetely prefer naked to fully dressed. For whatever reason I have never gotten in to intermediate wraps. I appreciate that attention to detail, it just
doesn't do it for me. Scroll work and engraving is again beautiful and artsy, but for a rod to fish I like my more plain and "clean" looking.
Quash's PHY photos are, to me, what the perfect rod should look like.
