I have aquired a 7513 Uslan rod with "Uslan" on the but section. It has an uplocking real seat, wood insert and a Payne style grip. Is this a New
York or the later Florida era?
Thanks

Hard to say without looking at it. Uslan's Spring Valley 7 1/2 4oz rod was the 7550. Generally the 7513 (7 1/2 ft 13 ferrule) was adopted when the new
catalogs were produced for the Florida move around 1956. To note though most if not all of the shorter rods sold in Florida were built while in Spring Valley.
Does your rod have an inked script USLAN or is it a decal with the penta logo below the name? Also the final stage Florida rods had a decal for the model
number too. If your rod is completely inked it is probably from the transition period - the uplocking seat is interesting though as he generally did down
locking seats - perhaps it is a replacement as he also sold components and kit rods - his seat could be mounted as either uplocking or downlocking with a screw
used to hold the plate.... What color are the wraps??

Thanks for the information. The wraps are the burgundy color. The writing on the shaft is "Uslan" and "7513". It appears to be hand
inked rather than a decal. There is no pentagon symbol.

Sounds like you have a Spencer model from the late Spring Valley era - nice rods. The rod generally weighed 4oz's with hardware and another 1/2 oz given
for the locking hardware. Generally very convex taper design and personally find that they perform best a line weight up -- guessing a DT6 might bring out the
true nature of the rod - Please let me know what line you like best with it and if you could the rods total weight as am always very curious about Uslan and
his work.
