Line for Thramer Sig. Series 8' 2/2 |
Lead | ||
|
Hi all. Got a new A.J. Thramer Signature Series Hollow Built 8' 2/2 #4 Dry Fly action rod coming in about two weeks. Can anyone suggest a good line
for this rod.? Any help would be much appreciated. Will be used mostly for spring creek fishing in central PA.
Thanks, Anthony |

Have you asked AJ?
I have a A. J. 7' for a 4wt built on the Heddon Model 50 taper and it is perfect for the suggested lineweight. I fish it with an Airflo Ridge Line, Persimmon Orange, DT4F Japan Special (that's quite a mouthful). I use that line because I happened to have it new in the box when I received the rod. I also like the Cortland 444 Peach. Bob

Anthony -- I have several of AJ's rods and his ratings are pretty much right on. However, depending on your preferences, it will probably cast a WF5 line
just fine with a bit more loading -- you'll just need to try a few different line weights and see what you like. If you're asking for a brand
recommendation, you'll get a dozen different answers. I like Hook & Hackle Hi- Floater, which is a Cortland line. It's inexpensive and I like the
color and performance. Cortland 444 Classic peach colored line is very popular with board members too. You can burn a day researching the past threads
concerning lines on this forum. Good luck!

I have talked with A.J. and it is a DT4 all the way. Or WF5. Just looking for opinions on brands and tapers. I like airflo. Being still new to this, just
wandering what types of lines the veterans would use to get the best feel out of a rod like this.
Thanks Again, Anthony |

"Casting & feel" in a fly rod is a very subjective thing. For this reason only you can be the true judge of what you feel is a good fly line that complements a rod & reel pairing. As tiptop suggested… "you'll just need to try a few different line weights and see what you like." and brands as well.
So, if you are fortunate to have a Specialty Fly Shop nearby, drop by
and test some lines to get an idea of what fits you best. I've used most of the major brands & tapers produced
and each makes a difference of sorts on a rod. Happy line hunting!
