Great loss. Harvey passed along his skills to 100s--if not 1000s--of students. A very selfless man who loved the streams of Pennsylvania.

This is very sad news. Mr. Harvey was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and human being. I remember fondly his generosity to the Penn State Fly Fishing Club
several years ago when I lived in Central PA. He would come to the club meetings and demonstrate numerous fly patterns and then look over our shoulders to
coach us along. His stories and memories of days gone by where priceless to hear and I will always cherish those memories. I extend my heartfelt sorrow to
his family.

Sad News indeed! I met George once, at the 50th anniversary gathering of the Fly-Fishers'Club of Harrisburg, in 1997. He was as sharp as a tack at that
ripe age. I asked him to autograph his chapter in "Limestone Legends" entitled, "We teach Fly Fishing at Penn State...". He agreed, then
immediately turned to the first page, (p. 311) and corrected the two errors, informing me that "it should have read 35 million fishermen" instead of
700 million and "probably 15 million" serious fly fishermen instead of 125 million in the second sentence. I was so impressed with his effort to set
the record straight. He took pride in that paper and what was accomplished in the development of fly fishers at Penn State over the years. As he should have!
Thank you for what you gave to fly fishing Mr. Harvey. May you rest in peace. J

He was a very warm and decent man. In the spring a 1995 my wife and I attended a fly fishing expo at Seven Springs resort here in SW Pennsylvania. Karen's
not interested in fishing, but I lured her into going with a promise of a nice lunch. Karen rapidly lost interest in fishing tackle and found a comfortable
chair to pass the time with a paperback. I came back after about an hour to check on her, and found her in deep conversation with George. She had no idea who
he was, but they'd talked like father & daughter for much time we had been separated. Not a word of fishing was exchanged between them--he had lost his
wife a few months prior and was still grieving. Karen was greatly touched and completely charmed.

I've found it hard to reply to this since it's so very personal. I had the great good fortune to be mentored by Mr. Harvey 40 years ago, when he was a
frequent visitor to our camp in central PA, and I was a budding flyfisher 11 years old. ( He was a friend and fishing companion of my godfather)He opened up a
world to me which I am still immersed in, and for which I will be forever grateful. I didn't realize what a singular opportunity this was until many years
later, but I never forgot it or the lessons he taught me. I last saw him a year or two ago up at Harpster's on Spruce Creek, in the company of his nurse,
fishing! After reintroducing myself, I was startled that he remembered me, and my dad, who doesn't fish. He was a true gentleman and gentle soul,
who did much more for our sport than most of the better known "personalities", many of whom learned at his feet. Through his program at Penn State,
(later continued by Joe Humphries and still going on today) his writing and other efforts, he probably introduced more people to fly fishing than any single
human on the planet. He will be sorely missed.
