On the Perfects that Hardy made explicitly for LHW, the upper pawl check assembly is on the reverse side from standard- that is, looking at the inside of the reel with the winding plate off as if it were a clock (& reel foot at top), the assembly on the LHW would be in the area between 12 to 2 o' clock, instead of the more common 10 to 12 o' clock. The winding plate also has a special locking screw countersunk into the center, in order to keep the winding plate from coming off in...

Now, about the bogus LHW issue... Both my LHW St Georges (recent models) are numbered, with boxes. Is this any guarantee that they are the real deal? Are these bogus reels new, or used, or altered?

Whatsleft knows the commitment it takes to locate the real deal. It would probably take another 18yrs to locate an original LHW St. George in a 3" or smaller. I own a late 50's...

Excellent tiptop. I was watching the whole time just to see how high it would go. It probably would have gone for more than the BIN. After blowing a load on a NIB 3" St George LHW earlier in the year, there's no way I could spend that on the Perfect. I'm a bit jealous.

I confess, I couldn't wait. I just knew that there was going to be a flurry of bidding at the end and very likely could have gone higher than the BIN price. And they sure don't come up every week. I love the classic reels but so many are RHW and life is too short for me to switch now. Hope it's as nice as it looks and doesn't have any unpleasant surprises. I'll post some better pics in the reels section when it arrives.

See the LINK icon in the tool bar (looks like a link from a chain)? All you have to do is copy the URL you want to use then type a word, or phrase, like tucking in the twins then highlight the word or phrase. If the reel is from the 20's it will most likely have a smooth brass foot and it will be lead finished and will have a brassy cast to it where the finish has left........I have a couple of these reels.....as a matter of fact I just posted a pic of them in classic reels.......see "tucking in the twins"......I would post a link but I dont know how...........................I wouldnt sell a LHW 20's perfect for less than $1200.00......if your reel is from the fifties with...

I'd split the two previous value and say $900-1000. I have an earlier leaded one like the one you mentioned, and I wouldn't sell it, but if I did, would want that price....Yes, an early Perfect, pre WWII, with leaded finish does definitely add value. LHW's are just so scarce. I've collected Hardy reels for over 15 yrs and rarely ever see one - that is Pre-WWII.

$1200 maybe a little high - a couple of more recent LHW Perfects with MkII check but ceramic guides sold this week - 3 3/8 and a 3 1/8 - both went at around $700 but I am not really sure what premium the agate and age would command - usually circa $350 imho.
They come up rarely so it is a question of who see's it for sale and what firepower they have to fuel their desire, and whether two of them want to battle for it if it goes to auction
