In my effort to compile a database of rods built by the Paul H. Young Co., I have at this point identified twenty rods built for Paul H. Young or members of
his family. Thus far there are ten rods built by Paul H. Young for his own use, three rods built for his wife Martha Marie Young (a Midge, a Driggs, and a
Perfectionist; I have yet to locate a Martha Marie Model built for her), two rods built for sons of PHY (one each for Jack Young and Paul A. Young), two rods
built for brothers of PHY,...

THink your absolutely right regarding Young's Dry Fly Special - basically see it as an intentional trumping of what was probably the most noted or at least
available rod in that area of the country at that time - just my opinion of course - as think the Heddon is '24 and was a HUGE success - Young's cork
is top notch right from the get go too I notice - basically see it as instantly recognizable quality as compared to the commonly found yet highly prized Heddon
Dry Fly Trout Rod....

Wow! I have the 1946 publication as an image file (thanks to a generous forum member) rather than the paper copy. But I had totally forgotten about the
reproduced page from 1927, with the ink drawing and Young's description of how he modified others' rods as experiments toward building his own. Here is
the ink drawing in comparison with my rod; the pictures say it all:

The thread about the Heddon-based, 1930's PHY Dry Fly Special, with detailed photos, is here: http://clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/topic/14559
I have not seen the drawing nor Young's description of modifying rods. Obviously, I would be thrilled to see this stuff, as it could answer a lot of my
questions. Any references you could pass along to me would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a more recent photo of the Dry Fly Special in action. It is a strong DT4 rod,...

Guess it would really depend on the # of family members who fly fish. With todays nod to graphite in the larger length rods though would think 20 is a lot of
family rods to make. Fun question - where did your last post go on that interesting dry fly rod you had/have with the Heddon seat and ferrules? It looked
exactly like the hand drawing atop his description about modifying peoples current rods to better perform and cast the dry fly.... Think it was 1927. Anyway
great stuff as always -...
