Remanufactured old long rods to 'like new' short rods.

I've seen an ad somewhere from a person who is in the business of acquiring 'old' bamboo rods and turning, for example, a 9 foot rod into a 6'6" rod; completely stripping and refinishing, adding guides, etc., as necessary. The prices are around $150.00. Sacrilege? Fishability of end product? What say ye?

Looking for restoration help on a Phillipson Rod with broken tip

I just picked up a a yard sale today a full butt section and a broken tip section, (down about 1 foot and piece is missing), split bamboo Phillipson "Grand Teton" 2 piece 7&1/2 foot rod. The The guide on the butt section just before the female ferrule is missing.

Looking a price to fix so I can use it to fish some small streams here in North Carolina.

Pinned ferrule replacement

I'll bet a nickel that this question has been asked here before...but I can't find it.

If it's decided that a pinned ferrule should be replaced, how does one go about it? Lining up an old hole in the ferrule station to match a new hole in a new ferrule seems a mystery to me.

Trying to match an old tip top

I don't think I've ever posted on this forum, but I've been reading for quite a while. This is a terrific source of information.

Does anyone know where I can find a tip top to match this? It's a size 5 tube, ring is approx. .128 I.D. If I have to, I'll replace both so they still match.

It's from an Armax that is totally NOT mint, but is is fished frequently. I'd like to keep it period correct if possible for the the owner.

Heddon "click"

I recently bought a Heddon, 8'-6" #14, 2F. Overall seems to be in good condition. At some point, it had most of its varnish removed, and now needs to be re-varnished. A couple of questions:

- The varnish over the inked "Heddon", and rod info is still on the rod. How can I get that off without destroying the inking?
- The rod has a strange "click". Not while casting. With the rod sections together, and wiggled or cast, it seems tight, and no...

Flaming question

I have built a few blonde rods so far and I should be getting some more bamboo later this week. I would like to flame it but having never done this I have a question. First let me state that I am mainly doing it for cosmetic reasons as I plan on heat tempering it afterwards(not relying on the flaming alone to temper the bamboo). The big question is whether I should darken the enamel quickly(close to the flame) or is it more like toasting marshmallows where you try and get a golden brown...

Regarding the 60½ in the other thread, I need to know what thread on the screw for the blade holder on these planes. We´re metric over here, so it wasn´t like a "standard" thread for me. I´m one screw short, but it´s the same screw as for the 9½, so I as it is, need to steal the screw from that one if using the 60½.

I´ve serched the forum for someting regarding the (Stanley) 60½ block plane, but got zero hits.

Are there any of you guys who are using it?

I have one but haven´t given it a fair chance yet. I don´t get how to use it (angle of the sharpening etc.) sort of, and thats why I´m asking.

Reel seat/handle repair

Howdy Ol' Timers...
I have been asked to rebuild a handle for one of the old bamboo rod. You know the ones with the reversible handles for spin or fly... Yea one of those.
The cork is glued over a wood dowel. The ferrules are Glued in both end. I want to remove the Ferrule on the Reel seat end that holds the reel hood on the dowel. The Reel seat is free to move about half way up the handle because of missing cork. How to I remove the ferrule? I tried heating. but it did not...

I did a test a few months ago on soaking strips.

3 heat treated strips, soaked them for 3 days

3 strips heat-treated.
