Longest rod you Fish?

I detest all bamboo rods longer than 8', the longest I fish are two 7'-9" 2/2 #5's. One a Granger taper converted to 7'-9" and the other built on a hollow built Chris Carlin blank. Both are superb on larger waters.

FE Thomas Special

Ive been seeing a lot of FE Thomas Specials being sold and I notice one that's cast a Four Wt. Theres others that cast 6/7 7/8 too but Im only interested I the four-WT. Are Thomas Special are they on the same plan as Payne 204 L and the Leonard model 501/2, that's in casting and being a Full Flex Fly rod. The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of Buying one? But I would like to know how they Cast. Thanks

Orvis Seven/Four weight gain?

I have an Orvis Seven/Four that was made by Ron White in 1997. The weight shown on the inscription and the tube label is 3 1/4 oz. I just came across photos of a 2001 example of the same model, also built by Ron White, that is marked by Orvis as weighing 3 3/4 oz. I checked Greg Reynold's database, and it looks like this 1/2 oz. weight change took place during 1999.

My 1997 rod looks the same as the 2001 rod, so I wonder, what accounts for the change in the weight of the...

I'm wondering how many forum members own one of these rare rods? Your thoughts on collectibility and value of Kushner rods? I'm currently in the process of purchasing Excellent++ 6' 2/2 3wt. 1.7 oz.

How to Store Rods????

Vertically or Horizontally?????....what is the best way to store cane rods when not using them....or does it make any difference? I am sure some of you have some very definate opinions on this and as my bamboo accumulation is growing, I need some advice from those who know...thanks, steve

I have absolutely no experience with SouthBend Rods...never owned one or cast one. This past weekend I became the proud owner...or should I say forced owner, (purchased for me by a friend at an auction with out my knowledge) of (4), and I'm now looking for SouthBend material so I can catch up on these rods. Heddon 13s any Missing?

I didn't set out to collect Heddon 13s, I love all there models, thats the problem and how this happened.
I thought all the Heddon lovers would enjoy this photo.
If there are any other sickos like me that may have a differen't version of this rod please let me know.

The Wright & McGill Water Seal fly rods

The last "new" bamboo fly rods introduced by the venerable Wright & McGill Company were the impregnated "Water Seal" rods which appeared for the first time in the company's 1952 catalog along side the full line of traditional Granger rods. They were made of "densified" tonkin cane.

I was just in my rod closet and saw several rods that I don't fish very often, if at all.
As I am a fisher of all my rods, or so I thought, I would ask suggestions for gleaning my meager "collection".

I guess my question is........how would you go about determining waht to keep and what to dispose of?

Heddon Model 35 8' 3/2 with 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 Ferrule?

Seems to me I've heard that this rod is most desirable with a 1 3/4 ferrule -- is that the consensus? Would anyone care to describe or express opinions about these two ferrule sizes on the 8' 3/2 Heddon? I imagine the 1 1/2 must be more medium action -- a 4 wt. rod perhaps? And the 1 3/4 a 5 wt?
